Archive for the month “January, 2014”

2014年1月21日★マーシーからの荷物がやっと届いたわ♪♬タッグも注文した本もピックアップできたこと♪♬久しぶりにキャシーちゃんに会いに行ったこと♪♬ハングリー!★

As mentioned in a previous post, I was really looking forward to getting this package that my Japanese “penpal” was gonna send over, to Australia :). He messaged me on Friday saying that he had just mailed it off, so I expected another week or two for it to arrive. でも、思ったより早く届いたわ♬めっちゃくちゃびっくりした!Sorry but I am so gonna brag about all this cause really happy haha 😛
I didn’t expect him to register the parcel and use EMS (cause it would cost like 4000yen), but he did and it arrived at my door Tuesday morning, when I was still half asleep haha. I told him that Tony might be able to pick it up for me once it’s arrived in the region so that would save us one day of delivery. But Tony had a day off on Monday and then my friend showed me his tracking thing which said the parcel has already arrived in Sydney lol. Thinking back Tony probably wouldn’t be able to pick up anyway cause the parcel was registered and tracked.

The snacks took up like the whole box already lol, Tシャツも入れたのは全然知らなかった、何も言ってくれなかったから笑サプライズだった!

T-shirt that says 『かめはめ波撃てます。』which means “I can do Kamehameha” :)) this is like so hilarious if you know Dragon Ball, one of my favourite childhood manga.

The Doraemon-covered thing is some sort of chocolated coated crunchy bits, really nice, compared to others I find them a bit too sweet. Haven’t tried everything though, saving them to share with some girls from my Jap class at school next week :). The Hello Kitty packaging is strawberry marshmallows (I think I’ve tried it before somewhere, tasted familiar); one that says “こしあん餡子” is some sort of mochi with anko filling. The mochi definity smells and tastes different from what I used to eat here before, maybe this is like…more of real mochi? There’s also chilliドンタコス chips which I found pretty okay/nice, but Mum didn’t like it lol. The round things are dorayaki ドラ焼き which I asked my friend to get even though they do sell it in Korean/Asian grocery stores cause these come in a big package which costs like 7$-8$. He sent me three single ones, I think he might of extracted them from a big package or maybe they do sell single ones in Japan :). Anyway, this is like two tiny pancakes placed on top one another with anko filling in between. I think what he got me were all quite normal stuff that we would eat here, like, there’s not that many unique Japanese stuff apart from matcha chocolate and anshiko I would say. The things I’ve tried (except dorayaki and the doraemon bits) they all come in big packs with single ones packaged inside, so still have a lot left for my friends xD.

The charms come in these little paper bags which have the name of the temple and its logo/symbol printed on them 🙂

Really cute painting postcard, it says 『下をむかない、うしろを見ない、だって未来も、しあわせも、前にまってるんだから、まっすぐ前見て、笑顔笑顔』, which literally means “We don’t face down, we don’t look behind, because the future and happiness are both awaiting us ahead, so look straight ahead! ” 笑顔 means smile/smiling face so in this case I think these are words from the two smileys in the painting and they sign their names as 笑顔. Really creative and cute :).

He wrote the card all in English lol, ちょっと日本語も書いたらよかったと思うんだけどねえ笑 So he got me an omamori (お守り) dedicated to study since I’m doing the HSC this year, two other cell phone charms one is squishy comes in the shape of Jizo, known as a god that protects children, the other is some gemstone with Jizo engraved with some tiny bell and tag that indicates the name of the temple it comes from. So somewhere on each of these three, there should be some form of 長谷寺 or Hasedera written on it. Hasedera is a temple in Kamakura, well-known for its huge Kannon statue, but I knew it for having such cute Jizo statues 😛

I decided to hang it on my pencilcase, originally this should be hung on bag but what I always do with my schoolbag…when I run to canteen I chuck it from a distance, to a corner, and there are many other “occasions” where I just cannot keep it clean (_ _”). Cathy puts her amulet into the plastic sleeve in her wallet, that would be a damn nice idea, except that when I tried, mine just wouldn’t fit since it’s all like popping up. I could hang it on my new wallet but probably won’t even be using it for school and it just doesn’t match so…yeah, pencilcase, since it’s for study anyway :D. The front of the omamori has the logo/symbol of Hasedera and beneath it says 『学業…守』, can’t read the 3rd kanji haha, but it is basically blessing for studies. At the back says 『鎌倉長谷寺』which literally means “Kamakura Hasedera”, it is very common for omamori to have the blessing in front and the name of the temple where it’s taken from, at the back.

I went out in the afternoon to meet up with Cathy, after such a long long time since she was overseas in Singapore and Hong Kong. Was with her for only like 2.5 hours cause she had tutor +.+ We went to pick up my dogtags at Mitchell’s Adventure, turned out not as good as I expected… They didn’t do exactly what I wanted, but thought it wad quite okay anyway, feel like I’ve tried my bestest already, going out to places to seek for tags and thought day and night of what to engrave etc..

Really, done my best so hope he will like it ><
After that Dymocks Burwood texted me to advise that the book that I ordered had arrived, so went to Strathfield to see Cathy off to her tutor then went to Burwood to pick up the book. Feel so happy and accomplished haha 😛 Like everything just came in all on one day! Overloaded with happiness haha!
image
One Day which I just happened to see on Dymocks website and thought it could be nice to try reading since I haven’t read romance in a long-arse time :). There is also a movie adaptation of this novel but I want to read the book first before seeing anything else.

Came across this Japanese drama when I was looking up the actor Tsukamoto Takashi (was really impressed by his acting in About Love, will talk about it later). Hungry! happened to also have this other actor that I quite like from ハナミズキ and ハチミツとクローバー even though he isn’t main in any of those :). Omg now feel like Ima do a review post on Japanese actors/actresses that I like.

Anyway, I was watching its BTS NG video on Youtube and thought it was worth a try. Up til now, having watched a lot of Japanese movies and dramas (my Japanese friend doesn’t even watch as much), I came to realise that if a Jap movie/drama is good then it is amazing, if not, which I would classify into the category of “ordinary films” which is the standard of their normal films, not so great. So having that set in mind, after being disappointed by so many other dramas before (some I didn’t have the will to finish and others were just okay, bearable), Hungry! reall caught me. The cast especially Mukai Osamu, done a great job in portraying the characters. The drama is about Eisuke a guy who gives up his dream of pursuing rock music, to take over his mum’s restaurant business. It is a Japanese drama, don’t expect it to be superb realistic in everything, but rather this is more like comedy entertaining sorta genre (somewhat like Nodame Cantabile).
I would rate this 7/10 under my standard of Japanese films, the downfall was probably toward the end, the last 2 episodes when it felt as if it should of ended already but events keep dragging on and on.

This post took me 3 days lol, was doing serious blogging yesterday but half way my friend messaged and because we don’t always have a chance to talk so whenever he gets to go on I would just stop everything else and focus on chatting :). He alwayw goes on really late so made me stay up really late everytime, so next time Ima try go to bed earlier, they having holidays over there now so hoping he can go on more, like earlier. School is starting in 6 days so yeah..haha….

I will do review posts on my favourite Japanese actors/actresses and my favourite dramas/movies :). Feeling keen.

₱ cramps – getting dog tags

I got much better now but yesterday and this morning was having really bad p cramps, body was aching all over and abdomen felt so upset that lost my apetite totally. For some reason didn’t feel like eating anything but kept craving for cold drinks and ice cream +.+ Recently discovered this brand of ice cream that everyone in my family fell in love with, forgot the name but the coffee flavour is extremely nice.

Btw was talking to Julia and we are planning to go to Vietnam “together” after HSC, her brother Bob might come along as well :). Still too early to sort everything out but really hoping that this is gonna work out nicely, never been overseas with her (oh once, NZ)… But what I mean is 😀 that it is really pleasant to travel with her cause we get along so well on trips and had really great times together at camps so I really wanna do something like that again. We both love camping so planning to go camp after exams too xD.

Went to Burwood today to meet up with her and got souvenir from her Mum from Singapore. The VS fragrance mist and the other two body creams they smell really nice XD. Anyway, went to get plain dog tags and I was so happy haha. Then went on to order One Day in Dymocks, can’t wait to read this piece of romance cause haven’t in a long arse time. She had tutor so I had to go by myself to city to get the engravement for the tags.

The lady I talked to last time wasn’t there but there was this other guy staff and he was really funny and nice. My plan crashed cause they only allowed 4 lines on each tag (there are places that do 5 why can’t they TnT) . Sooo, I was standing there with the paper for half an hour thinking of how I should change it, the guy was like “you look like you’re writing an essay” :)) I ended up cutting the “HAPPY 18TH X” off cause I didn’t wanna squish all of his full name into the first line 😦 Had a feeling that I was gonna regret it tonight before bed but I don’t now lol. Just hope that the engravement will turn out nice, the staff was going through the writing with me and he was like “Now I’m not sure if that’s how you spell PISCES but Ima take your word for it”, made me nervous but I’m pretty sure that’s how you spell it… Gonna come back a week later to pick it up XD so excited hehe. Disposal stores are full of wonders, would be nice to work there I think.

Things I’m looking forward to in the next few months

– Move into the new house, have my own room to study, nice kitchen to cook/bake, the smell of brand new furnitures :]

– Practise driving, got my learners licence recently, wanna learn to drive asap so I won’t have to depend on my brother for transport

– Get a job, moving soon but still hoping to grab something for now. Subway manager called today to ask about my availablity and said he was gonna call again for interview, don’t know if he will get back though 😛

– Waiting for my Japanese friend’s belated birthday present package. I asked for an お守りand he has already got one for me from his local shrine 🙂 He’s still getting some snacks to include in the package before he sends them over so I’m really excited hehe xD

– Getting a pair of military dog tags for Phú for his birthday this coming March and I’m very excited too cause been spending a lot of time thinking of what to engrave and the cheapest way to get them. A disposal shop in Burwood sells a set that includes a pair of dog tags, 2 rubber silencers, short and long ball chains for 5$, the engravement costs around 14$ at Mitchells Adventure in city on York St. It’s super expensive if you get it from Mister Minit (nicer quality dog tags though, but not the original military style) and 5$ extra in Mitchells Adventure if you purchase their dog tags (exactly the same but they sell for 10$). Yes the train passes would cost me the same money but I’m using my mum’s MultiZone ticket when she’s off work so not a problemo xP

image

Got his ID (name, bday, horoscope, blood type) on one tag and his favourite football/soccer club’s motto on the other. Spent a lot of time on this and this is what I decided on at last haha 😀 his 18th so wanna give something he can both use and keep, he might be called up for compulsory military service after high school so I thought this could be a good idea :). I actually wanna get myself one too haha, but probably not these ones. I’d engrave one of my favourite Latin phrases, maybe Que sera, sera it is ;).

The Book Thief Movie Thoughts/ Review

image

Despite the overwhelming number of people stuffed inside a small cinema at Events Burwood that day, the movie’s goodness was beyond my expectations. I haven’t read the book but of course a 2-hour movie cannot possibly cover every little detail/event of that in a book of hundreds of pages. However the movie was very well made in my opinion, it kept my eyes on the screen the entire time, didn’t even finish half of my cookies lol.

The movie is about this girl called Liesel (if that’s how you spell her name) who gets adopted by a (quite old) married couple. It’s set in the 1941 I think? I’ve forgotten all of history lessons haha. Her foster father teaches her how to read and write as she is really interested in books but couldn’t read nor write. The father later takes in a Jewish young man when he’s running away from the Nazis.

It’s about history and war, just what I’ve always been so interested in. This movie isn’t completely about the war though, it focuses more on human relationships with one another. I love how the characters are portrayed and the kids’ actings are great. Love how Liesel’s relationships with her best friend, foster parents and especially with Max, develop throughtout the film. I was impressed with the narration at the beginning and the end too :).

I would rate this 9/10, wanna see more movies of this kind, I think I will go catch The Monuments Men when it comes out this year hehe.

First photos bomb in 2014

Cruisers taste really nice with different flavours, at first thought they tasted like soft drinks. They do lol! But it’s nice and light to chill, it could of been better if it was a bit more concentrated though

Been taking Mango out a lot recently cause my bro’s been going fishing everyday for some reason… But she’s too naughty really

Going Book Thief tomorrow, been longing for so long to hang out with Wenxing cause the last time we did was more than a month ago since she’s been busy looking after her Dad’s shop. I’m really interested in the storyline too cause it’s history and stuff. I might even get the book. Have a 20$ Dymocks voucher to spend from coming first in ESL last year so gonna go check out some books tomorrow, thinking of The Book Thief, Les Miserables, Carrie, and this romance novel called One Day. I haven’t read romance in a long while so really keen on One Day :> the storyline sounds quite good too hehe, but it is not available at Dymocks Burwood so gonna ask if I can place my order or otherwise buy this from Parra and spend my voucher on something else.

Thinking of what to get my online Japanese friend for this birthday in April. Maybe something for his coming wedding 🙂 He got me a Japanese amulet from his local shrine in Kamakura, not yet arrived but waiting for it to come in my mailbox hehe 😛

Sis’ been buying a lot of furniture and things for the new house, making me really excited to move to, kinda getting sick of this house. She says I have to stay in Australia for Christmas with family this year cause Dad will also be here, we gonna be in our new own house and she bought lots of decorations already. We gonna have our first traditional Christmas, that is house decorations and kris kringle under the tree but not sure about the turkey haha! 😀

Also, got my L yesterday and gonna practise driving after we move, don’t like driving and traffic but got no choice, once I can support myself, everything else should be much easier. I can’t wait to get out of high school and have my life started.

Plans for 2014

– All of my closest friends are turning 18 this year so really wanna get something special for each of them 🙂 Still have no idea yet but already have in mind what I will get Kim Phú, thinking of getting him a dogtag or two that will have either Chelsea’s crest (his favourite football club) OR his name/birthdate/etc engraved on it :>

– Save money for the long holiday after HSC, gonna do something with school friends here then go back to Vietnam and spend my holiday with two of my closest friends there

– Settle down into new house in Liverpool, buy new furniture/etc and decorate my room XD invite friends over for home movies/hangout 😉 Bake and experiment new recipes!

– Will probably not go out as much anymore after I move down there so gonna stay home most of this year to study/join and go to gym/walk Mango 🙂 It would be nice if I can make new friends with my neighbours too heehee

– Be as nerdy as possible, study my arse off and do good in the HSC haha

– Train myself to be an elegant, fine lady that Mum wants me to be

*I will add more to this list if I happen to have anymore 🙂
