As mentioned in a previous post, I was really looking forward to getting this package that my Japanese “penpal” was gonna send over, to Australia :). He messaged me on Friday saying that he had just mailed it off, so I expected another week or two for it to arrive. でも、思ったより早く届いたわ♬めっちゃくちゃびっくりした！Sorry but I am so gonna brag about all this cause really happy haha 😛
I didn’t expect him to register the parcel and use EMS (cause it would cost like 4000yen), but he did and it arrived at my door Tuesday morning, when I was still half asleep haha. I told him that Tony might be able to pick it up for me once it’s arrived in the region so that would save us one day of delivery. But Tony had a day off on Monday and then my friend showed me his tracking thing which said the parcel has already arrived in Sydney lol. Thinking back Tony probably wouldn’t be able to pick up anyway cause the parcel was registered and tracked.
The snacks took up like the whole box already lol, Tシャツも入れたのは全然知らなかった、何も言ってくれなかったから笑サプライズだった!
T-shirt that says 『かめはめ波撃てます。』which means “I can do Kamehameha” :)) this is like so hilarious if you know Dragon Ball, one of my favourite childhood manga.
The Doraemon-covered thing is some sort of chocolated coated crunchy bits, really nice, compared to others I find them a bit too sweet. Haven’t tried everything though, saving them to share with some girls from my Jap class at school next week :). The Hello Kitty packaging is strawberry marshmallows (I think I’ve tried it before somewhere, tasted familiar); one that says “こしあん餡子” is some sort of mochi with anko filling. The mochi definity smells and tastes different from what I used to eat here before, maybe this is like…more of real mochi? There’s also chilliドンタコス chips which I found pretty okay/nice, but Mum didn’t like it lol. The round things are dorayaki ドラ焼き which I asked my friend to get even though they do sell it in Korean/Asian grocery stores cause these come in a big package which costs like 7$-8$. He sent me three single ones, I think he might of extracted them from a big package or maybe they do sell single ones in Japan :). Anyway, this is like two tiny pancakes placed on top one another with anko filling in between. I think what he got me were all quite normal stuff that we would eat here, like, there’s not that many unique Japanese stuff apart from matcha chocolate and anshiko I would say. The things I’ve tried (except dorayaki and the doraemon bits) they all come in big packs with single ones packaged inside, so still have a lot left for my friends xD.
The charms come in these little paper bags which have the name of the temple and its logo/symbol printed on them 🙂
Really cute painting postcard, it says 『下をむかない、うしろを見ない、だって未来も、しあわせも、前にまってるんだから、まっすぐ前見て、笑顔笑顔』, which literally means “We don’t face down, we don’t look behind, because the future and happiness are both awaiting us ahead, so look straight ahead! ” 笑顔 means smile/smiling face so in this case I think these are words from the two smileys in the painting and they sign their names as 笑顔. Really creative and cute :).
He wrote the card all in English lol, ちょっと日本語も書いたらよかったと思うんだけどねえ笑 So he got me an omamori (お守り) dedicated to study since I’m doing the HSC this year, two other cell phone charms one is squishy comes in the shape of Jizo, known as a god that protects children, the other is some gemstone with Jizo engraved with some tiny bell and tag that indicates the name of the temple it comes from. So somewhere on each of these three, there should be some form of 長谷寺 or Hasedera written on it. Hasedera is a temple in Kamakura, well-known for its huge Kannon statue, but I knew it for having such cute Jizo statues 😛
I decided to hang it on my pencilcase, originally this should be hung on bag but what I always do with my schoolbag…when I run to canteen I chuck it from a distance, to a corner, and there are many other “occasions” where I just cannot keep it clean (_ _”). Cathy puts her amulet into the plastic sleeve in her wallet, that would be a damn nice idea, except that when I tried, mine just wouldn’t fit since it’s all like popping up. I could hang it on my new wallet but probably won’t even be using it for school and it just doesn’t match so…yeah, pencilcase, since it’s for study anyway :D. The front of the omamori has the logo/symbol of Hasedera and beneath it says 『学業…守』, can’t read the 3rd kanji haha, but it is basically blessing for studies. At the back says 『鎌倉長谷寺』which literally means “Kamakura Hasedera”, it is very common for omamori to have the blessing in front and the name of the temple where it’s taken from, at the back.
I went out in the afternoon to meet up with Cathy, after such a long long time since she was overseas in Singapore and Hong Kong. Was with her for only like 2.5 hours cause she had tutor +.+ We went to pick up my dogtags at Mitchell’s Adventure, turned out not as good as I expected… They didn’t do exactly what I wanted, but thought it wad quite okay anyway, feel like I’ve tried my bestest already, going out to places to seek for tags and thought day and night of what to engrave etc..
Really, done my best so hope he will like it ><
After that Dymocks Burwood texted me to advise that the book that I ordered had arrived, so went to Strathfield to see Cathy off to her tutor then went to Burwood to pick up the book. Feel so happy and accomplished haha 😛 Like everything just came in all on one day! Overloaded with happiness haha!
One Day which I just happened to see on Dymocks website and thought it could be nice to try reading since I haven’t read romance in a long-arse time :). There is also a movie adaptation of this novel but I want to read the book first before seeing anything else.
Came across this Japanese drama when I was looking up the actor Tsukamoto Takashi (was really impressed by his acting in About Love, will talk about it later). Hungry! happened to also have this other actor that I quite like from ハナミズキ and ハチミツとクローバー even though he isn’t main in any of those :). Omg now feel like Ima do a review post on Japanese actors/actresses that I like.
Anyway, I was watching its BTS NG video on Youtube and thought it was worth a try. Up til now, having watched a lot of Japanese movies and dramas (my Japanese friend doesn’t even watch as much), I came to realise that if a Jap movie/drama is good then it is amazing, if not, which I would classify into the category of “ordinary films” which is the standard of their normal films, not so great. So having that set in mind, after being disappointed by so many other dramas before (some I didn’t have the will to finish and others were just okay, bearable), Hungry! reall caught me. The cast especially Mukai Osamu, done a great job in portraying the characters. The drama is about Eisuke a guy who gives up his dream of pursuing rock music, to take over his mum’s restaurant business. It is a Japanese drama, don’t expect it to be superb realistic in everything, but rather this is more like comedy entertaining sorta genre (somewhat like Nodame Cantabile).
I would rate this 7/10 under my standard of Japanese films, the downfall was probably toward the end, the last 2 episodes when it felt as if it should of ended already but events keep dragging on and on.
This post took me 3 days lol, was doing serious blogging yesterday but half way my friend messaged and because we don’t always have a chance to talk so whenever he gets to go on I would just stop everything else and focus on chatting :). He alwayw goes on really late so made me stay up really late everytime, so next time Ima try go to bed earlier, they having holidays over there now so hoping he can go on more, like earlier. School is starting in 6 days so yeah..haha….
I will do review posts on my favourite Japanese actors/actresses and my favourite dramas/movies :). Feeling keen.
